CCFC vs Sheffield Utd

There are a couple of people I would like to give a shout out to that produce regular excellent content about CCFC. The first is Sideway Sammy whose blog is required reading for me on match day morning and the second is a new YouTube Channel called Match Plot whose technical break down of the likely formations and tactics I really enjoy.

For this game we need to get a result after a disappointing away day on Friday night when all the frailties we have seen over the last few games came home to roost as we failed to outscore our opponents for the first time in a while and with a difficult trip to Stoke coming up on Saturday we really could do with taking something from this game.

CCFC – The season so far

Well what a start to the season. 9 games in and still unbeaten with 5 wins and 4 draws, scoring 27 goals including a 7-1 win vs QPR and 5 goals against Derby and Sheffield Wednesday both away. This kind of exciting football takes me back to the 1997-98 Season with Dublin, Huckerby, Whelan, McAllister et al playing some of the best football of their careers.

Haji Wright is currently the league top scorer with 8 goals with Brandon Thomas-Assante and Victor Torp in joint 3rd with 5 goals each. Haji looks back to his best after a injury hit last season and although at times can be extremely frustrating when he is on it he is clearly a class above and has a great chance of winning the Golden Boot this year if he can maintain his fitness and form.

Elsewhere BTA has been a revelation with his work rate and finishing, which I thought lacked composure last season, filling in for Ephron Mason-Clark on the left and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto on the right when they have missed games through injury.

It has been a pleasure watching this team so far and with the international break over and Blackburn at home coming up I am expecting us to carry on the good form and hopefully establish ourselves as genuine promotion contenders in the run up to Christmas.

My Motorcycle

This is my BMW R1200R Sport registered in 2017 that I have owned since April 2021.

On purchase the ODO read 15,077 miles and at the time of writing I have reached just over 41,500 miles. As you can see I use my bike for touring, the above photo was taken on the shore of Beauly Firth heading out to start the NC500, and with the addition of a touring screen it handles this with aplomb.

What else have I added to my bike?

Is there anything I would change?

The only thing I would change is the overall weight of my bike. If I could shed 20Kg from the gross weight it would be perfect but as things stand it is almost perfect. It has more than enough power for my needs, it’s comfortable especially with the addition of the bar risers, I can load it up with as little or as much luggage as I need for trips and I absolutely love the way the engine pulls from low revs.

It’s been a while!

This blog has sat unloved for nearly 12 years so I am going to try and breathe some new life into it by writing about Football especially Coventry City, Cricket, Motor Cycling, Web Stuff and anything else that comes to mind.

Another Year of IAM Membership

This year for the first time we are no longer going to have a physical card that we can carry in our wallets. What we get is a digital image shown below and a digital membership card which can be stored in my case in my Apple Wallet on my iPhone.

This is a real shame as far as I am concerned as I like a physical card to carry in my wallet.

What Hard Drive should I buy ?

Interesting article on Backblaze’s Blog. I have generally purchased WD Hard Drives in the past so hopefully I will be ok.

Subbuteo – Fond Memories

The guys at The Football Attic have been doing some sterling writing recently about one of my favourite childhood toys, Subbuteo. Highly recommended reading for those of us that are of a certain age.

Linking PHP includes used in files triggered by cron jobs

This is more of a reminder than a tutorial, when using PHP Includes in files triggered by CRON jobs you cannot use the normal relative links in your include or require statement you have you include the full server path to the file.

To do this you can use __DIR__ if the version of PHP you are running is greater than 5.3 like so:

<?php require_once(__DIR__.'/path/to/directory/file.php'); ?>

Coventry City vs Preston North End – Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Area Semi Final

Well what a night. In recent years having gone 2-1 down after taking the lead from an excellent finish from Steven Jennings we would have rolled over and had our tummies tickled but this new city side is made of sterner stuff under the stewardship of Mark Robins.

The introduction of Franck Moussa in the 74th minute gave us a little more impetus going forward and our pressure finally told in the 92nd minute when Moussa’s cross fell to Jordan Clarke on the right hand side of the box and his deft little touch gave Carl Baker the chance to power home at the near post through the keepers legs to level the tie and then Leon Clarke sent into sky blue heaven by winning it in the last minute after their keeper could only parry Bakers shot back into his path.

So now we progress to the area final to face either Crewe or Bradford for a chance to play at wembley.
